PLOT

Consilium mortiferum

It all starts when the wife of a poor farmer named Denis Trois becomes drastically ill. Seeing that she was coughing up blood, her temperature was rising and she could not breathe, she suspected that it was tuberculosis. Denis worried more and more because he knew that if he did not get any remedy or cure in a short time he would die. Luckily I had a very good merchant friend named Aluin. This one makes a commercial route by all France and sometimes it happened through Pau to sell fabrics to his wife. Aluin proposes to him to return to Toulouse with him in search of some remedy to be able to cure it.

Without thinking twice, Denis prepared everything and the next day, just before sunrise, they left for Toulouse with two horses pulling a carriage and a mule carrying the things that the merchant had to sell. The journey lasted from sun to sun and when they only had a quarter of the way left, they found a humble pilgrim (a common thing considering that this path was part of the most important pilgrimage route of the time). The farmer, who was getting more and more nervous because he did not know what he would do when he arrived in the big city, explained his whole situation to Pierre (the pilgrim), who, fortunately, told them that he knew the city and that would help them find someone who could cure her (it should be noted that according to the pilgrim the farmer was an envoy of ten who was there to put the pilgrim to the test). Denis no doubt accepted his help, they talked to Aluin and ended up deciding that he would pay him to continue on foot with the pilgrim while the merchant would go to sell his merchandise around town. Denis and Pierre arrived in Toulouse when it was already dark, but as they did not want to waste time, they headed to a cemetery on the outskirts of the city (north) where a lonely and mysterious witch lived who, according to the pilgrim. , a year ago she had been wanted for witchcraft and they even say that she burned her parents in front of her own eyes and that was why she had gone crazy. Once there she told them that she could take care but that of course it would not be free. Delance (the witch) told them that he had an acquaintance who got him much of the items needed to make much of the brews. This is called "Le chasseur sans âme" and this time he needed two more people to steal the most important jewel they would see in his life. This was called "El Regante". It was a diamond stolen from the King of France himself who for unknown reasons had it from the Noble Archard (a relative far from the king) in his castle. Luckily, that night the nobleman was attending an opera (called Richard Cœur-de-lion by André Ernest) at the Theater du Capitole located in the city center. The farmer and the pilgrim would have to meet this mysterious bandit in order to enter his castle and steal the diamond. As the wizard told them they went to another area of the forest where they found a man, with a dark hood covering his whole face. Without asking too many questions they headed to the castle, it wasn’t very big and there wasn’t much vigilance either. The bandit explained the plan to them, this consisted of Denis and the pilgrim staying on guard at the castle gate while the bandit stole the diamond . The bandit did not find the jewel and became very angry. They went to the witch and explained what had happened. She said that since they had not done so, she would not care for them. On the other hand at that very moment a scene is seen as the personal guard of the Noble Archard explains to him that a mysterious man accompanied by a pagan and a pilgrim have entered the house in search of the diamond. In the background you see how a person appears (you don't see who he is, he is on his back) who is holding the diamond in one hand and starts laughing with the nobleman. As it was getting dark, Denis and Pierre decided to steal a horse and leave that city as soon as possible. What was not expected was that halfway through they met the noble Archard accompanied by his bodyguard and another man. They got closer and closer to the point where they could detect the face of their friend Aluin. There were a few moments of silence, and then the nobleman proceeded to accuse them of attempted robbery. Aluin then laughs and shows them the jewel they tried to steal, both the pagan and the pilgrim were able to deduce that his merchant friend not only traded in fabrics, he also made special orders that came directly from the highest part. of the nobility. Without any remorse the merchant sentenced them both to death. While the guard was imprisoning them, the bandit suddenly appeared and with a dry motion managed to take the diamond from Aluin's hands. Quickly the guard attacked him with his sword but the bandit pulled out a weapon never seen before by anyone (Cherville musket) and shot him in the chest. In the blink of an eye, the vandal had disappeared in the same way as the pilgrim. On the other hand he paid him not so much luck and they imprisoned him. A few days later he was burned alive in front of the town square, but what no one will expect is that all the innkeepers, servants, day laborers and other non-privileged workers in the city attended the excursion expressing the innocence of that one. humble man.

On the day of the execution, the pilgrim went to Denis' house to see how his wife was and in search of food (as it became increasingly difficult to survive, the nobles made them pay more taxes and the food was getting more expensive). When she arrived she only found a body starting to decompose (she had been dead for days) and some piece of dry bread. Finally the pilgrim buried what was left of that woman. (seen in the background the pilgrim looking at the horizon and it becomes dark).
